12 July 2013 – Day Two Newmarket July meeting

1.40 Newmarket – Piper-Heidsieck EBF Fillies´ Handicap

The return to an easier track and quicker ground should bring out the best in INDIGNANT today. The daughter of Gold Away is a horse that appears to have nice early pace and this ability to get in the firing line early will help in a race where not a whole lot of pace is on. Her form at two was nothing special, but she appears to have come back a stronger and better filly. Two good runs this season at Newbury and Sandown mean her current well-being is not an issue and this drop back into fillies only company is a big plus. She took the girls on in her first start at Newbury and ran really nicely. Having raced for much of her own early, she eventually went down to Anecdote, a Royal Ascot winner subsequently. That form obviously looks solid and the first three pulling well clear of the fourth is another positive. Her latest effort came at Sandown in open three-year-old company and again she ran well. Once more she showed her good early speed to grab an ideal position and go handy. She travelled with great zest and coming to the final two furlongs she was still going well. She lengthened when asked, but was just run down close home and was surrounded by stronger colts. The return to this easier track on quicker ground and fillies only company should really aid her cause and I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t go very close with Richard Hughes back on board.
