4.15 Newbury – Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day Handicap
AUTUN struck me as a horse that would make a nice three-year-old last season and he can hopefully get his 2013 off to a good start by taking the 4.15 at Newbury. Nine will go to post, but there is plenty of dead wood in there, in comparison to the selection’s potential ability and he, and Nicholas Canyon look two standouts. The latter mentioned is half the price of the selection however and gives us six pounds. We haven’t got the benefit of a run like the Gosden horse, but Sir Henry Cecil’s string have been in good order early this campaign and I’m hoping he’ll be straight enough to do himself justice. His class may well pull him through. A current rating of 79 looks workable given his two juveniles runs. On debut there was plenty of money around for him where he was too green to do himself justice. That maiden was won by Sir Michael Stoute’s Telescope who is considered to be a genuine Group horse. From here he went on to break his maiden in comfortable fashion, scoring at Nottingham on good to soft ground. He was much more professional on his second start and I felt he was more value for his neck beating of a Luca Cumani horse who he was giving six pounds to. They also pulled eight lengths clear of the third. After the race connections had this to say “He´s still learning and there´s plenty more to come. He was very babyish first time but showed what a nice galloper he was there. He was more professional and the experience of coming away from Newmarket will have doe him plenty of good. It´s all about next year really”. He looked a fluent mover this day so I’m expecting today’s quicker ground to suit. He has the widest draw of all to overcome and a first time hood has been applied. They are two slight worries and for that reason a one point win bet will be advised.
1pt win AUTUN @9-2 (Bet Victor, Coral, William Hill)
